Respawns
A respawn is a center point with a radius and a list of creatures (monsters or NPCs) that spawn inside it. This page shows how to edit an existing respawn. To create several at once, see the Respawn generator.
Finding a respawn
Section titled “Finding a respawn”- With the V or S tool, the center tile of every respawn shows the respawn icon. The S tool also highlights the areas.
- Click the icon to select the respawn. The inspector on the right opens with its properties.
- Clicking another tile in the area, or a creature of the respawn, opens the same section; the “Tile inside the area” notice has the Go to center link.
- The left panel tree lists respawns by creature name and region, with search. Search also finds respawns by monster or NPC name.
When several respawns cover the tile, the inspector shows up to 3 sections. The respawn centered on the tile and the owner of the clicked creature come first.
Respawn inspector
Section titled “Respawn inspector”- Radius: from 1 to 150.
- Creatures: one row per creature, with the name, the position relative to the center, the Direction (North, East, South or West), the Respawn time (s) and the remove button. The creature under the cursor is marked “on this tile”.
- Add creature: type the name as in the datapack and click Add. The creature spawns on the free tile closest to the center and inherits the time and direction of a creature with the same name already in the respawn. With every tile in the radius taken, the panel asks you to increase the radius.
- Delete respawn: asks for confirmation and removes the respawn along with its creatures.
Every change is an undo step.
Moving and dragging
Section titled “Moving and dragging”With the V tool:
- Drag the icon to change the center. The creatures stay where they are and the radius only grows if one ends up outside it. Orbiz refuses the move if the new center already belongs to another respawn of the same type, or if a creature would end up more than 150 tiles from the center.
- Drag a creature to another tile. If it leaves the area, the radius grows by itself.
See Select and move.
Creating respawns
Section titled “Creating respawns”- With the palette’s creature brush, click inside a respawn’s area to add the creature. Outside any respawn, the click creates one of radius 1.
- To cover a large area, use the Respawn generator.
- Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V with the V tool copy a respawn or a creature. See Copy and paste.
Fit to monster
Section titled “Fit to monster”Old respawns often have their center far from the creatures. In the inspector:
- Fit to monster moves the center to the middle of the creatures and leaves the smallest radius that covers all of them, with a minimum of 1. The creatures do not move. If the middle is already the center of another respawn of the same type, Orbiz uses the nearest free tile that gives the same radius.
- Fit all in zone X does the same for every respawn with a center or a creature in zone X. It only applies to the part of the map already loaded.
An empty respawn is not adjusted. Each adjustment, even in a batch, is one undo step.
Split respawn
Section titled “Split respawn”Split into 1-monster respawns turns a respawn with several creatures into several radius-1 respawns, one per creature, with the center on its tile. Name, spawn time and direction stay, and the original respawn is removed. If the creature’s tile is already the center of another respawn of the same type, the center goes to the nearest free neighbor, and the creature is still covered. If no neighbor is free, the whole respawn stays as it is. The button is disabled with a single creature.
Split all in zone X does the same for every respawn in the zone, in the part of the map already loaded. The whole split is one undo step.
Respawns of the same type with the same center in the same respawn file show up as one, with the creatures of all the copies and the largest radius. When you edit or move that respawn, Orbiz writes a single element and deletes the copies.
To find and remove respawns with no creatures, use cleanup.
