Houses and towns

A house has a name, a town, rent, an exit, numbered doors and the tiles that make it up. A town has a name and a temple.

The house panel opens five ways: from the left panel tree, from the palette’s House tab, from the house brush, with the V tool on a house tile, or by clicking the house icon.

With the V tool active, each house shows a small golden house at its exit (the tile in front of the door). With no exit, the icon sits on the tile closest to the center of the house. Clicking the icon selects the house and opens the panel. The icon cannot be dragged or copied, and Delete does not remove it: use Paint tiles to change the tiles and Delete in the panel to remove the house.

In the panel:

  • Name, Town (the list of the map’s towns), Rent, Beds, Client ID and the Guildhall toggle.
  • Client ID is the id the client uses to show the house (in the Cyclopedia, for example). A new house is born with its Client ID equal to its id. Houses that already exist keep the value they have.
  • The house id (House #N, in the panel title) is its identity and does not change. The size (size) has no field: Orbiz computes it from the house tiles when it publishes.
  • Exit: Set exit activates a brush; click a free tile outside the house, with ground and not blocked. Remove exit clears the mark.
  • Doors: shows how many there are. Renumber doors sets the numbers from 1 to N, by floor, then y, then x.
  • Paint tiles: activates the house brush.
  • Delete: asks for confirmation and removes the house, taking off the tiles the house id, the PZ mark and the door numbers. It is one undo step.

Every change is an undo step.

  1. Open the palette’s House tab and click New house. The id is the highest existing id plus 1, and the house is born in the town of the focused house (or of the last in the list), with no tiles and no exit.
  2. The house panel opens and the house brush is already active. Paint the tiles on the map. Alt removes the mark and Shift+drag paints a rectangle.
  3. Set the name, town and rent in the panel.

Orbiz numbers doors by itself: when you paint a house tile, and when you paint a wall or door inside a house. Use Renumber doors to redo the order from scratch.

Towns appear in the Towns group of the tree.

  • Create: the New town button, in the header of the Map panel, puts the temple at the center of the screen.
  • Rename: edit the Name field in the town panel.
  • Move the temple: click Click on the map and then the tile (it needs ground and must not block), or paste a coordinate in Move to coordinate.
  • Delete: the button stays disabled while a house is linked to the town, and the panel says why.

The tree, search and the house’s town list follow the edit.
