Respawn generator

The generator creates a new respawn over the area you marked with Area selection, choosing the creatures, the amount and the ratio between them.

  1. Press M (or S) and drag an area on the current floor, or click a single tile for a simple respawn (1 creature, radius 1). The selection must be on a single floor.
  2. In the Selection panel, open Generate respawn.
  3. Search for monsters or NPCs and click to add them.
  4. Choose By percentage or By quantity and fill in the values.
  5. Check the preview on the map and click Generate respawn.
  • Total creatures: how many creatures the respawn will have. The default is 10; on a small area, the Use N creatures button sets the total to what fits. In By quantity, the total is the sum of the quantities.
  • Percentage: each creature’s share. The sum has to reach 100. Until it does, the screen shows “Remaining: N%”. Divide equally splits the percentage evenly.
  • Maximum radius: from 1 to 150, default 30. The respawn’s radius is the smallest that covers the area. If the area needs more than the maximum, the generator refuses and tells you the radius it needs.
  • Default spawn time (s): the spawn time for all creatures. Each creature has its own field to change it.

Each creature’s count comes from the total and the percentage using the largest remainder method: with 10 creatures, 30% and 70% give 3 and 7, and the sum is always the total. The screen shows “3 / 10” next to each one.

  • The respawn’s center sits at the middle of the rectangle that encloses the selection.
  • Each creature takes its own tile, which has to be valid for the creature (the same rules as the creature brush) and not already have another creature.
  • With not enough tiles, the generator shows the numbers (valid tiles and requested) and creates nothing.
  • Each creature’s direction is random.
  • Monsters and NPCs go in separate respawns, even with the same center.

The draw uses a visible, editable and copyable seed. The same seed repeats the result. Roll again changes the seed.

The map shows the respawn square and a colored mark per creature, in the same color as the dot next to its name in the list. Generating is a single undo step: Ctrl+Z removes the whole respawn.

Viewers and commenters see the section disabled, with the reason.

The generator always creates a new respawn. It does not merge creatures into an existing one. For that, use the respawn inspector.
